I’m from downtown and I’m here on a mission.

HI.

The good news is: EVERYTHING.

Ahhh. Working hard will get you places. Creativity and a positive attitude (really) help too. I’ve not commented much on the Klout thing. I might have mentioned a while back when Bre was making a stink about Klout, wondering how they rank, etc. Klout is the ‘Online Standard for Influence’. If you don’t know what I’m talking about checking out this list of 10 Most Influential Tweeters in Toronto (I’m on there #6). Earlier this summer I got a free flight from Virgin American & Klout. (Vote for me in the contest here.) I couldn’t manage to make the trip while at my old job so I never used it. I bet all the people who cried about not getting one would hate to hear that!

Yesterday an article was published in Tech Vibes by Jas Banwait (who didn’t get a flight) about Klout, influence, and measurement. People who didn’t get flights seem to really have lots of opinions on Klout.  Those of us who did, just seem grateful. The world is a funny place. It was a free thing and it certainly got people talking. I’ve asked my share of questions about Klout and I think what they are doing is pretty neat.

I find it all quite interesting. Social media & measurement, social and the connection with new media. The measurement of something so new and massive without regulation is hard.

I have always been a social person involved in lots of things with lots of friends. The internet just gave me a microphone, it allowed me to amplify my voice.

Ok, part 2…

The bad news is: NOTHING.

I’m a delegate at the TEDxTO conference in September. YAHOOOOO! I’m really looking forward to attending. I missed the application deadline last year and thankfully got in there this year. My friend said my acceptance was well deserved. Hard work I tell ya.

Have a great day. Ok, this might be some bad news, I think allergy season hit me today. Boooo!

Nah, not really a stink, but I did raise a lot of questions that people were asking, and that I was wondering myself. Luckily, Klout was nice enough to meet with me so we could clear things up that they didn’t get to clarify with each and individual. There was issues with the scores, for instance I had a 43 but when they refreshed my score at the office I was actually a 63, and a few other hiccups, but it’ll be pretty solid going forward I think. I did a follow up post about it, too, clearing up a lot of things: http://www.breannahughes.com/not-just-about-your-klout

All in all, this campaign was a huge success for Virgin. It was amazing that they let us bring a friend for free too, so it got a lot of people talking about and exposed to their planes. I was lucky enough to have a friend take me with them so I got to visit both SF and LA. After flying with WestJet recently, it really hit home to me how awesome Virgin planes really are. I missed them.

Anyways, I’m very excited to see what they do next!

Good luck with the provocateur contest and enjoy your flight with Virgin. They are fun and like a nightclub! Thanks for the link!
