Been having a pretty relaxing weekend. Can’t believe it’s already Monday. Back to the city tonight or tomorrow. I love being up here but I’m looking forward to going home. Feels like I’ve had more time at the cottage than home lately!

Canada Day canoe out on the lake!

My friend Steph is here from New York City. Sean and I met her last year at Anamaya Resort in Costa Rica. [Read about it here!] The weather has been a bit meh but it’s finally nice and sunny today. We created a super tasty wine spritzer with Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc mixed with La Croix, strawberries, and a bit of juice.

So good! La Croix, Kim Crawford wine, strawberries, juice

Celebrating Canada 150 w/ Great Canadian Cheese

What a nice surprise it was to receive this package, cheese! 🧀🧀🧀 To commemorate the 150th anniversary of Canada, Dairy Farmers of Canada is highlighting three distinct Canadian cheese from local cheesemakers.  This weekend I’ll be hosting a friend from NYC at the cottage and treating her to wine and great Canadian cheese.

Canada has a tradition of producing high-quality, great tasting cheese. A couple years ago I was in Montreal and visited Fromagerie Au Gré des Champs, one of the top cheese makers in the province. It was so cool to see how and where cheese is made. Tasting fresh cheese really gave me an appreciation for it. Safe to say my suitcase was loaded up with cheese for my trip home!

Growing up I didn’t eat a lot of cheese but *luckily* I grew out of that lactose allergy in my teens. I had hardly tried anything other than cheddar and mozzarella before Sean and I  started dating 7 years ago. Since then,  he’s shown me a whole new world of great cheese! There’s so many great varieties, and ways to eat it; sharp ones, super soft ones, melted cheese in general, cheese with garlic, on crackers, with potatoes, pizza, fruit, or my personal fav, with vegemite on toast.

A Bit of History

Cheese making in Canada goes back to our French and English heritage, “French settlers brought over methods for making soft, ripened cheeses, while United Empire Loyalists fleeing the American Revolution, introduced the distinctly British characteristics of cheddar“.

In my research, I learned cheese making in Canada can be traced back to the early 1600s but it wasn’t until 1864 when the first cheese factory was set up. Cheese making in Canada is older than the country itself! By 1867, there were over 200 cheese factories in Ontario alone. 🧀

“Our great Canadian cheeses start with 100% Canadian quality milk, which are produced by our passionate dairy farmers in a sustainable way’ said Sebastien Bergeron, Director of Marketing for DFC.

Representing the best of the best in Canadian cheese, Dairy Farmers of Canada has hand-picked three highly-awarded varieties to share as part of the Canada 150 celebrations. My favourite from the three DFC sent over is the Avonlea Cheddar. The recipe is from Scotland, and the flavour comes from the salt air, iron-rich soil, and Holstein cows milk.

Join me in celebrating Canada and the dairy farmers who help make cheese possible by sharing great Canadian cheese with your friends and family this weekend. 🇨🇦🧀

Testing the Surface Pro 4 from MicrosoftStore.ca

I don’t get jealous often, but it’s time to come clean! 🙋🏼 For the last year or so, I’ve watched two of my colleagues at 1188 Films use and rave about, their Surface Pro devices. They use it as a tablet on set, a computer in the office, and a notepad in meetings. While here I am lugging around multiples devices…

I wanted to take one for a test drive, so when I got an email from the Microsoftstore.ca team to do just that, I was totally game!

Here we go with the Surface Pro!

As you know, I spend a lot of time on my computer.  I shift from being a blogger to working as a director with 1188 Films Inc. and doing a variety of other client-related tasks throughout the day (aka. emails galore). I’ve only had the device for a couple of days, but it’s seriously impacted my productivity. The  Surface Pro 4 is both computer and tablet, so it saves me lugging around 2 devices. It’s also small and light, so it’s easy to carry in a purse or backpack. Lately, I‘ve been lugging around both my iPad Pro and MacBook Pro which makes my purse kinda (super) heavy.

As a girl on-the-go, I found the Surface Pro to be super portable, and versatile.
It’s like powerful little studio all in one device.

The fact that the device converts from computer to tablet is a solid feature for creatives like myself.  I’m able to work on a document in computer mode, present something in a meeting in studio mode, and give directions on set in tablet mode. All in one device. You can also work on a bunch of things at the same time, great for multitasking.

Multi-tasking to the MAX

The computer is fast (Intel® Core™ processor) and you can run heavy programs like Premiere or Photoshop with absolutely no issues. You can even edit a video and spit it out in 4k which is super handy for any editor. The battery lasts a full workday (50% more battery life than Surface Pro 3.), meaning you don’t need to drag a charger around.  (You know the struggle of finding an outlet is real. Very real).

Computer mode at the 1188 Office

I’ve been making a lot more art lately, so I was super keen to check out The Surface Pen. It’s got a wide sensor and pressure range great for detailed drawings. One of the things I noticed before I even got started is that the pen and Surface device are magnetic, aka the chances of you losing the pen are lower than with the iPad Pro. (If you have one of these devices you know what I mean!)

Using the brushes in Fresh Paint is hyper-realistic, I was painting with oil and the way the paint moves, blends and smudges is incredibly close to the real thing. I’m familiar with Autodesk Sketchbook so was glad to see it was available for Surface Pro. I use that to sign my name for the blog and the pen is very detailed, exactly like what you have it set to ex. paint brush, chalk, pencil, ballpoint pen etc.

If there was one thing I’d change, it would be to add another USB port as there is only one on the device. You can purchase a Surface Dock on microsoftstore.ca to transform your device into a desktop PC! There is a firewire cable, and you can pop in an SD or Micro SD card directly to the unit.

Overall, great device especially for students or freelancers that work on-the-go. Highly recommend for anyone with a mix of creativity and business in their life. For more info on the Surface Pro 4 or to make a purchase, visit microsoftstore.ca.

If you have any questions for me about using the device, leave a comment!

You’re young. You can do whatever you want.

Found this in an alley near my house the other day. I would be kinda annoyed if this was my wall but I also like the message.

This is a little reminder that you can do anything you want. Just go, get up off the couch and DO IT. Want to start a blog? Make one. Be an enrtepreneur? Do something every day to bring you closer to your goal. There is nothing standing in your way other than your own self-doubt, fear, or anxiety. Not having time or money is not an excuse. Face whatever is holding you back, head on, and make a change.

There’s no point wasting your time and energy doing something you don’t want to do. Life is short and every day you should do something that makes you happy.

I originally drew this back in 2009. It was around the time I quit a job I didn’t want to do anymore. I wasn’t allowed to do use social media at work since it wasn’t part of my job (they blocked Twitter & Facebook!). I’d removed time stamps from my blog as to hide when things were posted. I quit that job to do social at Much/MTV and have never looked back.

Since then, if I find myself in a situaion where I don’t want to do whatever it is, I quit. I find a way to get out of it or change it into something I do actually want to do.

Make the most of each day. You’ll never be younger than you are right now. 😊

Throwing Shade: New Celine Sunnies

I didn’t even know today was ‘International Sunglasses Day’ when I planned this post! It’s always crazy when those random days seem to line up with something you’re doing.

A couple weeks ago I received an email from SmartBuyGlasses with an offer to pick out a pair of new sunnies for summer. It’s times like this I reallllly love my blog! I’d been eying a pair of Céline glasses for a while but couldn’t justify paying full price. Well, SmartBuyGlasses is the place to go! They’ve got heaps of designer sunnies at discount prices. I really like their huge selection of Carrera and RayBan (next on my wishlist!).

I’m wearing the Céline ‘Tilda’ from SS15 which retails for about $500 CAD and on the SBG website they’re under $400. They’re made of acetate but have an expensive feel, as in they’re kinda heavy. I have a pretty big huge collection of sunnies ranging in price and save fancy ones like this for special occasions. They’re a little big on my head but I’m gonna try some Nerd Wax to keep them in place.

For the record, I really wanted these glasses so when I got them email to pick out a pair I was so stoked! THANK YOU SmartBuyGlasses!

At Home w/ My Biggest Fan: Dyson Pure Cool Link

When this was delivered Sean said ‘look, it’s your biggest fan!‘ 😛  I don’t do product reviews often but when a piece of really cool tech comes along I’m happy to test it out and share my thoughts. A few people asked about the fan when it arrived early spring so scroll down for my fav features.

tl;dr: This fancy fan is the best one I’ve ever owned. It’s quiet and you can monitor your home air quality from the iPhone app. Also, at high speed, you can be just like Beyonce!

This is my allergy free happy face!

Since I was a kid I’ve been prone to seasonal allergies. They usually kick in around the worst times like March Break or Back to School.

A member of the PR team from Dyson saw my tweets about allergies and offered I try the Dyson Pure Cool Link Tower. This fan has no blades and is easy to clean, plus it removes 99.97% of allergens and pollutants as small as 0.3 microns. Allergies can actually be made worse by indoor dust and pollens.

I received the fan in the spring and used it in the living room for the last couple months. It’s great for cleaning the air of smells (when cooking), making the house feel fresh, and cleaning toxins out of the air. You don’t even want to know how much dirt is in the air or carpets.

I can’t 100% say it was just the fan but I hardly had any reactions this spring. I found the fan really helped with the air quality in our house. It’ll be nice to see how the app tracks and monitors our air quality.

COOL THINGS ABOUT THIS FAN:

  • It has wifi! I downloaded the app and have been monitoring the air quality in my workspace. I also have smart lights up in here, helloooo future!
  • Set it, forget it – The fan will monitor air quality in your home and adjust settings to clean the air.
  • Multipurpose – It’ll purify your air all year and act as a fan in the summer (multi-purpose).
  • Design – It’s nice looking, for all the features packed in, it hardly looks like an appliance
  • Night mode – It will work through the night but is super quiet. I’m not one of those people that like the sounds of a fan at night.
  • Oscillation trust me it has real soft moves
  • Removes odour – we initially had it in the living room and it’s great for clearing the air especially when cooking

If you or someone in your family is prone to allergies or you just want really clean air, this is the fan for you. It’s on the pricey side but if you’re looking for similar function on a lower budget, try the smaller Dyson Pure Cool™ Link Desk.   Read up on the fan features at dysoncanada.ca website.

If you’re looking at other Dyson products we also have the Dyson V7 and I love that little thing!

For the record, I was given this fan in exchange for sharing my opinion!

It’s crazy and mind opening to go back into my life diary and see things I made and not really remember creating them. Imagine 10 years from now, scrolling back to read the diary you started today?

There’s a lot of benefits as you may know, to keeping a journal (here’s 10). I started mine, mostly to keep more memories and it has totally worked. Writing this blog has helped my memory, writing, self-discipline, and it’s pretty good therapy (for the record!).

In the last 12 years I’ve grown from a wild post-uni 20-something to an adult doing real things. Still kinda wild tho! I had no idea what this (journal) would turn into when I started, or back in 2009 when I took this photo and wrote words on it. I’m really glad I didn’t give up all those times I thought about it.

Randomly found the 2009 photo below while searching (for something else) in my blog yesterday. I’ve taken so many photos and written a ton of things, sometimes I actually inspire myself!

I guess what I’m saying is, anything is possible and you can find
a lot of inspiration in your own archives.

Artist Designed Pizza Boxes + Pizza from Panago! 🇨🇦 #ShareMoreCanada

Canada Day weekend is just around the corner and as you’re aware there’s heaps of celebrations of our wonderful country. One in particular, I’m sharing with you right now combines two of my fav things, PIZZA and ART.  Also, I really love, love pizza….

Panago partnered with Toronto-born born artist Chairman Ting to create a one of a kind rad drawing you’ll find on their pizza boxes until August.

AND, in true #RandomActsofPizza Panago fashion, if you colour in the box and share it with them on social, you might just score yourself some free pizza.

To get my hands on the new boxes, I hosted a pizza party at the office. We had the new Canadian pizza with all the trimmings. The boxes are actually really cool! I’d love to do something like this. There’s all kinds of little Canadian things including the CN Tower, a Mountie, lighthouse, the Rockies, Parliament in Ottawa in more. Panago is a Canadian brand and you’ll find locations across the country.

“We wanted to celebrate all regions across the country,” says Christie Coughlan, Panago VP Marketing Director. “The summer box is the perfect packaging to promote our Ultimate Canadian, True Canadian and Vegan Canadian pizzas this summer, while shouting—not whispering—Happy Birthday to the Canada!”

Visit panago.com or give them a ring to order yourself a pizza. If you colour in the box and post it to social with the hashtag #sharemorecanada you might be rewarded with a #randomactsofpizza and FREE ‘ZA!

XO WITH LOVE AND PIZZA,

Gives me great joy to partner with Panago to bring you this pizza message in celebration of Canada.

My love for this fabulous circle food is literally, skin deep. 😛

The Big Clean of 2017 vs The MMVAs 😝

What a great weekend! We had heaps of rain but I *actually* sat down and got a lot done. Sean and I also did The Big Clean of 2017! This week my friend Misty and her daughter + sister are coming up to the cottage with Emily and myself. It’s going to be super fun. relaxing, visiting and GIRLY. I’m really looking forward to it! Misty is from Australia (but lies here) and her sis visiting from the motherland. Shrimp on the barbie! Haha.

IN OTHER NEWS…

Sean won TWO MMVAs last night at the show! We were deep into the big clean when I checked Twitter to see they won the first one and seconds later saw a second tweet.

2007 MMVA After Party at ULTRA w/ Hannah. Paris Hilton was there!

A Little MMVA history…

Over the last 10 years, my relationship with the MMVAs has gone through some major changes.

Back in 2007-2008, going to an MMVA party was the coolest thing and being on a list or getting a wristband was the ultimate.

FF to 2009 when I worked at MUCH. I was the Social Media Manager for the 2010 show  (imdb) and worked tirelessly for months, then ran social behind the scenes during show night.

In 2012, Sean was nominated for Down With Webster video and I came out to celebrate his win after the show. It was in the early stages of our relationship and I remember thinking he was SO COOL. (Still is!)

1188 MMVA Win – these things are SUPER HEAVY

In 2015, he was nominated again for Zed’s Dead and did the red carpet before the show. I really wanted to go but he didn’t have plus 1. He went with his partner on the project (Grandson & Son) and he sent me this photo! We’d stopped at Yorkdale on the way home from the cottage. He got into his clothes as fast as he could. I made sure he was looking great and sent him out the door. Then they WON! I think I went to meet them and celebrate that night too. Sean won another time for a Sam Roberts video since then. One year I also hosted a VIP room in an MMVA lounge where celebs came though.

Sean on the MMVA red carpet in 2015

Yesterday around the middle of the day, Sean had to decide if he was going to the show or not. Should we go and party? He decided no! It was kinda great. The sun came out at the cottage and we got heaps of work done.

In all my years of knowing about the MMVAs never did I think I would be in a relationship with an MMVA winner and decide to not even go to the show. We’reI old now lol.  (ok,  maybe next year!) Well, it was a great night up at the cottage and feeling super well rested and alive today.

Also to note that LORDE won Best International Artist and Archie from Riverdale (KJ Apa, a Kiwi!) was there so it was a big night for New Zealand.

CONGRATS ON THE WIN FAM!

Thanks Converse.ca 😎✌🏼 New Shoes for Me! New Shoes for You!

In celebration of converse.ca (Welcome to 🇨🇦 !) they sent an awesome package. The box is an old computer with a lenticular screen, and it’s full of disks. A couple disks have codes for FREE SHOES and I’m sharing then w you. YAY! I gave a pair to Matt @ 1188 to test shipping. Ordered Friday shipped Monday, on his feet Tuesday in TO from Montreal.

Every summer I get a new pair of white Converse because after wearing them all summer with no socks, trust me, they’re worn out done.  I’d like a pair of white leather hightops but I also love the little white Dainty. Really feeling the Nike X Flyknit but they only come in mens sizes and my feet are too small. 😩

The new Converse II  soles are more comfortable. They’re a great summer staple, love them with dresses or jeans, shorts, and rompers. They’re my fav. I have a framed photo of my Andy Warhol converse in my room and another couple pairs tucked away in under bed storage for safe keeping; an Andy Warhol pair and classic Chuck Taylor high tops with my signature on the tongue.

HOW TO WIN? LEAVE A COMMENT! 👇🏽

Scroll over to converse.ca, find your fav shoes, and say hi in the comments w/ a link to your fav pair.
I’ll pick two people and shoes will be delivered to you anywhere in Canada.
Extra points for good manners, jokes, or kind words. GOOD LUCK! 😊

💡It's kind of fun writing little disclaimers at the bottom of posts. Have you noticed? As I said, Converse sent me a cool present and I decided to share with you on my blog like I have done since 2009. This is what I love about blogging telling a story about something I love and my little ol' life and sharing with you. Thank you Micki and Converse team, also again this package is awesome.

Watch Sean Rip It Round the Track! #FordFathersDay

Wednesday this week I took Sean to a track with Ford Canada to giver in the Ford RS and Mustang GT. I’ve driven on tracks with Ford a few times so know just how fun it is. It really helped me learn to handle a vehicle and be a more confident driver.

Ford invited me to bring a dad in my life in celebrations of Fathers Day. Sean works really hard and I knew this would make him feel great! I only went one lap and let him take a few extra just to see the smile on his face.

Look at that genuine happiness!!

WATCH THIS

Our options to drive were Ford Mustang GT Convertible, Ford Mustang GT Fastback, and the Focus RS. The Focus RS is REALLY FAST. You’ll see Sean say it’s amazing in the video. 😜

I took lots of selfies in the Mustang Convertable, love this car AND the weather!

One of my fav things of the day was doing a ‘hot lap’ with professional drivers Darryl Timers (Ford of Canada’s Performance Driver since 2013). Our vehicles were fully stocked with GoPro’s to catch our reactions. I also woer my Snapchat specs while driving so hit play below to see a first person view of me on the track.

THANK YOU Ford and the team from National PR for a memorable experience with a fav dad in my life. We’ll continue to talk about this day for a loooooong time!

Don’t forget to say hi & love you to the dads/uncles/granddads/brothers and dad friends in your life this weekend!

Ford invited me on this trip but it wasn't a paid partnership.

LIFE TIP: If you're EVER given the opportunity to drive really fast on a track YOU TAKE IT.

Thanks Ford, Love ya!

Boats, BBQ, Babes! Perfect Cottage Weekend

This is my happy place!

Sean on the wakeboard!

The weather was perfect this weekend. Spent most of it at our friends cottage. Came up Saturday after a friends wedding. Last night we had the most epic meal of steak, shrimp, potatoes, salads, garlic bread. It was so good. Had some leftovers for breakfast! Feels great to spend time w/ good friends and family. ❤️

Unfortunately on Saturday night I got killed by mosquitoes and deer flies. My legs look like I’ve been on Survivor. I counted 80 bikes last night but I feel like more and more are swelling up. I’m so itchy! 😩

FYI you can soon enjoy La Croix in Canada! It’s coming this month.

We’re staying up an extra day so my Monday will be spend working in between breaks on the water and in the sun.

We went out for a nice rip on these guys today. Very fast! This weather is amazing. Last week was kind of intense so really enjoying every bit of our time here to recharge the batteries.

Remember: you will never be younger than you are today so make the most of it!

Hope you had a great weekend!

Snip Snip! Sassson Toronto Spring Style!

For the past few months, I’ve been having my hair done at Sassoon in Yorkville. My hair, although it’s super easy to get ready in the morning, IS VERY high maintenance. I have the colour done about every 4-6 weeks with a trim once, sometimes twice in the middle. I like the experience at Sassoon and each time I’ve had someone different do my hair. Variety is the spice!  In April, I went wild for spring and cut it all off super short!

Before I Cut it all off super short!

Taking Care of Your Hair w/ Treatments

Aside from the cut, I really love how great my blonde looks a couple weeks after I get it done. Blonde can be tricky and if you don’t take care of it properly, it’ll go yellow and brassy. The team at Sassoon has been loading my hair up with treatments to make the colour stay and keep it strong.

Treatments Sassoon has been using in my hair:

Colour: Long Lasting Colour Radiance

Coloured hair needs special care to ensure it retains its vibrancy and shine. The colour treatment conditions and protects hair without build-up, helping to maintain long-lasting color radiance and intensity.

Moisturizing: Dry or Undernourished Hair

Sun exposure and pollution strip your hair of essential natural oils, leaving hair brittle and dehydrated. Hair will be immediately revitalized with the intensive moisturizing treatment, providing exceptional conditioning and restoring hair to its natural brilliant shine.

I’m almost due for a trim before my next root touch-up. I love having short blonde hair but I think I’ll try one of the soft spring pastel colours like pink, violet, or peach. Will be so nice for this time of year!

For my next full appointment, I’d like to grow it out a bit and try this new Sassoon cut from the SS17 collection. It’s a unique look but I think I can pull it off! I love the androgynous style. What a babe!

Stay tuned for a whole new look!
