down with the sickness: part two #throat

I could feel it coming on last night and should have done this before bed. It’s ok, one day of Mum’s remedies and I’ll be all better.

Have a sore throat?  Want it to GTFO of your life? Here’s watcha do. (Mum, GTFO = get the fuck out)

Get some ground sage and 2 large mugs
Boil the kettle
Put sage in mug, pour water over
Let sit until sage sinks to bottom and it cools down
Strain tea into another mug leaving sage in mug 1
Make sure it’s not too hot
Go gargle with it
Repeat all day
Feel better

Mum had us do this as kids and because of it we hardly ever missed school (thanks Mum!). BTW Sage will also soothe hurting gums, cankers, irritated larynx and vocal cords.

While you’re in the kitchen boiling that kettle, throw some fresh ginger in a mug and drink it.

Down With the Sickness Part 1 is for common cold. It’s instructions on how to Thyme Bath your way to healthy. See that post right here!

flock of eagles

It really does not matter what you have, what you had, want, or what you own. You are whoever you want to be. How you perceive yourself has the biggest impact on how others perceive you, this is my belief and something I live. It was my dear mum that ingrained in me, “just because you don’t have money, doesn’t mean you can’t compete, you just have to be more creative”. Luckily for myself, I’ve always been rich in that department. The book in this post is one that I really, truly love and admire. It is written by Paul Arden one of the world’s top advertising guys who comes from a great career with Saatchi & Saatchi.

This is not merely a ‘book‘, this is a bible for the creative, those driven to succeed who couldn’t even ever imagine what it’s like to ‘think inside the box‘. It has taught me tools to succeed in the world, to dream the unimaginable, to break the rules, and make my own path, leaving trails for others to follow. This book is about stretching the mind and thinking about where you want to be in the world. Do you want to be well known? The best in your field? Your country? Best in the world? Or best in the universe?

You decide. I know where I want to be.

Can’t Fly with the Eagles if You’re with the Seaguls – Mum

you are sick. you make me sick. gross.

Today I woke up sniffly with sinus congestion feeling lethargic. Mama’s got a cold/flu.

Tonight, before bed I’m gonna do a Thyme bath. It’s one of Mum’s herbal remedies. In my history, the one that has worked to cure a cold the very best.

When you get sick, go buy some  Thyme from the store like in the photo (I’m using two of these small dried bags). Get your biggest pot, fill it with water and boil the water/thyme. Now go run a bath, as hot as.

The thyme will settle to the bottom of the  big pot eventually. It will also smell nice in your house (Dad hated it, but I love!)

Pour the water from the pot into the hot  bath straining the little green thyme bits out. Get in the hot hot bath, sit there as you can before dying of heat. Then, get out dry off, dress warm, put on socks & scarf and go to BED. Sleep. Wake up feeling better. Rinse repeat again the next night if you’re not better (you can even use the same thyme/pot). Take Oil of oregno too.

Thanks Mum for teaching me this when I was little. I hope I do it right and feel better tomorrow so I can go back to the job I love.

Can you imagine this was your last holiday with your mom or dad? I can’t.

Heart for the Holidays from Heart for the Holidays on Vimeo.

Can you imagine this was your last holiday with sister or brother? Girlfriend or boyfriend?

Some people have to and that is a heart wrenching thought to me. Just stop and think about it for a moment…seriously.

You know I’m a positive girl and I can’t imagine the effect it would have on me knowing it was the last Christmas with one of my family members. I’d be a complete wreck. This is Mum and Dad with my awesome sister Jenie. I love you guys!!

The Heart House Hospice is a volunteer driven organization which reaches out to these families in their time of greatest need. With your help we can give them the best holiday ever while they still have the chance to live it!

took candy and makeup and said don’t panic

This morning in the shower I was remembering something that happened a few years ago and feeling quite lucky.  I’ll share with you now what I remember. Mum, if I mixed it up please tell me.

I was about 12 years old and traveling home from New Zealand with Mum and Jenie. We had gone through all the checks  and boarded the plane.

I don’t remember the exact chain of events but it went something like this. We boarded and someone’s luggage boarded the plane but not the passenger. Airline, big problem. We all had to exit the plane and they had us wait in the waiting area.

The plane had come from Iraq to Australia and was picking us up in New Zealand. At the time, Irag & Oz were having bad relations.  Remember, I was only 12 when this happened so I know hardly anything about that part.

The security guys were doing massive searches on ALL our luggage. They rummaged through everything taking out  consumable products like gum, candy, lotions, makeup and tossed them in the garbage bin. I asked the security guard for piece of his gum. He gave me one, it was cinnamon.

They searched my hair, bottom of my shoes, even behind my belt! Every passenger went though the same hands on search. We found out shortly after that there WAS a BOMB ON OUR PLANE. Yep, the one  we just exited.

The bomb squad was on board taking care of it as we waited and waited and waited.  It was eight long hours  in the airport before another plane arrived to take us back to North America.

After 9/11 people really scared to fly, including me.  However, I boarded my next flight knowing I already had a bomb on a plane once in my life, the chances of it happening again are pretty slim. ;)

Traveling to see my parents this weekend out of the city.  They’re over 50 but it doesn’t even seem like it, they have young attitudes. Me, my hurting back and swollen-bee-sting-finger are quite looking forward to it. Adventure time!! I always find heaps of good stuff in the basements.  That also means your closet Mum, haha! Woohoo!

Happy Friday!

bono sang me to sleep last night

The U2 concert was loud enough to hear distant vocals and the buzz  of the crowd cheering from my bedroom.  Took some pain medicine and passed out. It was only the second time the roof has been open for a concert ever. I taked to a guy the other day about the shape of the roof and how the sky done was built. He mentioned this really cool flat roof he was working on. I ove how rain sounds on a metal roof. The tower was lit up to match the show. Bet those were some pricey Concert Tickets to get. Some rad aerial photos from the show here.  I finally got a good sleep and woke up in less pain than the day before. The future is bright!

I read an interesting post today from Erin on the Sprouter blog.  I’ve been getting emails and calls from friends not yet using this stuff saying “Casie, I need to  set up Twitter/Blog stuff  for my business.  Help me, help me”. The thing is, just setting up a Twitter account or blog is not going to generate a presence online, save your brand or make you money.

Social media is more than just being online, it really is about being social. You gotta put yourself out there (and stay out there) online AND offline to get the social media results you’re looking for. Like everything else, it takes work.

I apologize on behalf of Kanye the Douche, he interrupted my site yesterday. Yours too? Urgh, that guy,  SO annoying. I came in to the office to see Mum had sent me a email with a Health Warning. I assumed it was serious and then…oh Mum, so funny!

p.s. Entertaining stuff on my Tumblr & Borderline Artistic blogs and my Twitter stream if you’re looking to waste some time at work this afternoon. Ok. Bye :)

the process of changing apples to oranges

I wake up. Twist and scream. I think, why me? Sometimes live throws you curve balls. You can catch it. Pain, I can handle it. X-ray day today. Most people don’t like the doctor but it helps when he’s young and handsome like mine. I’m grateful for the friends/family who have been helping me. I’m thankful for Mum. I rung her so upset this morning and she saved the day. She made me feel better. Then I remembered it’s her birthday. I felt horrible. Finally did some laundry. I got flowers last night from the house where I fell. They’re beautiful. Getting read to go now. I can do this. It’s gonna be ok. Positive thinking.

I just read over your Billie Jean King quote about achieving your dreams, Mum.  The one in the frame. Thank you. I love you.

garage sale vintage steal

One time Jenie and I went out to a fashion party and we decided to wear these vintage dresses from the 1950′s. Mum snagged then at a garage sale. Probably from an old lady. It was awesome wearing them. We both felt so elegant while the other girls wore mall clothes.  It was our debut and the first time they were out in over 20 years. We were a hit! Thanks Mum!
