Fashion

Fashion events, shows, & style from around the world.

I am so in love with all the looks below from the new collection at Sassoon. Every single time I go to the salon I take a peek at looks and cool haircuts from the past. I like working together because I feel like their style and my style are in the same lookbook.

In other news, I low-key stalked someone at the event last night because I love, love, loved her Sassoon cut. (I mean, I only have about 8 photos from the night of her hair. 💁🏼)

A Night Of Style night featured a hair presentation by Salon Creative Directors and the SS`18 Ready To Wear collection by Atelier Guarin. It was so nice to mingle and have snacks with the salon gang outside of my appointments. I did an interview with my Sassoon colourist Kim a little while back and she is so funny we laughed our heads off again at the event.

Here’s a sneak peek at the new MONDAINE collection for SS 2018. I love these looks so much. The cuts, colours, glasses, sass. You can see why Sassoon is a good match for me. I would rock every single one of these looks!

The bold, block colours and graphic shapes of this ideal echo the experimental silhouettes of Cristobal Balenciaga who utilised austere architectural shapes and bold colour combinations in his inimitable designs.

I had a cut on Tuesday by Jason Kwan and my colour done about two weeks ago. I absolutely love how they’ve been doing my hair. It feels healthy and I’m looking forward to growing it out a wee bit for the winter.  For Sassoon Salon info or location visit the website or give them a ring at  (416) 920-1333 book your appointment!

Have a great weekend. It’s going to be BEAUTIFUL!

Winter Weather, I’m Ready for Youuuuuu!

I went early to the Roots Cabin because I was planning to get home to yoga. However, traffic was (is?! FML) super intense and it took way longer to drive home than I expected so, no yoga. We ordered takeout and am working on blog things. I’d never been to CHILL Ice House so decided to turn my photos into a wee blog post because I love blogging more than doing other things!  (Like reporting 🤢 or cleaning the house! 😩)

Roots invited media to pop by the #RootsCabin to ‘chill out and warm up’ in their new Packable Jacket. It was cute. Along with the new jacket, they gave us all matching hats, and gloves. I wore the jacket under my new trench, it fits nice and snug, is super thin, good for layering. Mum has a vest similar and wears it all the time.

It was decorated like a winter cabin and there’s a warm bar out back with a fireplace. Cute date spot for a couple drinks. It was looking pretty Christmassy to me and now I want to put on Jingle Bell Rock. Winter I’m ready for youuuuuuuuuuu!

This post isn't sponsored by Roots Canada, I mean they gave me the jacket, I would love if they did tho. Longtime fam from days working at the mall as a teenager!

Sorry I’m Late, I Didn’t Want to Come

I wore tights today for the first time this year. And a hat. I’m glad that berets are back in style because I have a few and love wearing them. It must be that French feeling you get when you wear one. Fall fashion is my favourite in that you can wear something cute with a light jacket and never be too cold. I don’t even mind the winter, light layers are the key.

‘There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing’
source is unclear on this one

Over the past couple months I’ve been beefing up my wardrobe with essentials for fall and a few arrived today! In exchange for sharing my favs, Romwe and I have a deal where they send me clothes. Honestly, what a dream! My three latest picks arrived today and I’m wearing the pink rose jacket in these photos.

I picked this wild all-over print shirt because it will look great over a bathing suit in summer and under a sweater in the winter. The olive green sweater was on my wishlist and it matches my eyes so, it’s perfect. The cropped rose jacket is light enough to wear under a warmer jacket in winter.

Other items on my winter Romwe wishlist are this yellow mustard jacket and all the stuff below. The prices are good and there’s no extra shipping costs. I’m kinda of obsessed with embroidered things, light pink, and dark green right now.

TIFF 2017: #EssentialsLounge8 Recap

This week I’m *finally* getting to all the goodies I received during TIFF this year. I had such a fun time! One of my fav events every year is the Essentials Lounge hosted by EGPR. In its 8th year, the one-day lounge exists to equip media with TIFF survival items to heal, hydrate, and help them through the festival fun. All photos by the amazing Ryan Emberley.

I arrived just before lunch and slipped into something a little more comfortable aka Keds then had a fabulous express facial from the team at SkinCeuticals.  Before the treatment, I put my head into the contraption below and was given an in-depth skin analysis and a selection of skincare essentials to pamper my skin.

Tweezerman hooked us up with a set of personalized Slant Tweezers, a Mini Nail Rescue Kit, plus a Mini Brow Rescue Kit filled with their brow essentials. Dior was onsite to touch up my makeup and hook us up with a few of their fav items. Over the past couple weeks, I’ve been loving the Dior FIX IT 2-in-1 Prime & Conceal Face – Eyes – Lips and FLASH LUMINIZER Radiance Booster pen.

I’ve been known to be a bit silly so when the Michael Kors team said I could get my ‘sexy Ruby’ engraved with 3 letters, I went for something fun. LOL!

* took this one using Portrait Mode on iPhone 7Plus

Some of my other fav things from the lounge were TuckShop Trading Co. ‘City of Neighbourhoods’ Collection Tee, plus 6 Panel Wool Ball Cap. I picked Queen West, obvs.  I’m a fan of  Green & Black’s chocolate and was happy to find a few in my gift bag. Sean and I broke into them last night after dinner! 😝

Thank you Esther, Jessica, and the wonderful team at EGPR for the invite and hosting a great event. I’ve been attending the lounge since it started (I think?) and have watched the team and client roster grow. Check out EGPR here.

Took home these cuties from the Keds X Rifle Paper Co. collection! Cuuuuuute!

First, been listening to the new Taylor on repeat and I like it. I feel like she’s grown up the last for years and is probably sick of everyone’s bullshit. I can totally relate to that because I am 35 now and in my ‘I don’t give a f*ck’ stage where I will do what I want and not let anyone else’s expectations dictate how I feel.

Living in this sheer sweat shirt from ROMWE now that night’s are cooler. Get it here!

Second, this summer I’ve really taken time to relax and chill out. I’ve still blogged and updated the internet but it’s been less than years prior and it kinda feels good. I don’t see myself stopping anytime soon but I’ve learned it’s really important to give back to yourself. I’ve had a few meltdowns over the years after being totally exhausted and overwhelmed by trying to do too much.

On that note, I’m realllllllly looking forward to TIFF this year. This week I was at the annual NKPR ‘Festival Countdown’ and it was so great to see everyone. I’ll put together a post about that exclusively. I’ve got my list of gifting lounges to check out in the first week and there will without a doubt be a bunch of parties.

Yesterday I signed Sean and I up at the new LA Fitness near our house. I paid for it with my own money and I have been going for about a week now. I have never joined a gym before and I really like it! After doing yoga religiously this year, I feel ready to take it up a level. I refuse to spend this winter sitting on the couch again! Years ago Sean said I would be really fit if I only worked out as much as I watch Young & The Restless so that’s now what I try to do. Kinda silly but that is 5 hours a week! With yoga and the gym, I can totally blow that out of the water!

I’ve got that FRIDAY FEELING today! Here’s to a great weekend!

Also, new Taylor? I’m into it! DYK Right Said Fred (I’m Too Sexy) have a writing credit on the song?! CRAZY.

Summer Nights, Shining Lights, Pure Delight

New robe. Obsessed. I feel so fancy sauntering around the cottage in it. Find it here.  I was sent an item as a gift from SheIn a couple week ago and have since ordered so many things. I spend most days up here in a bathing suit or yoga pants. A robe is about as fancy as my cottage wear gets haha.  Will be spending a few hours this afternoon reading on the dock in the sunshine. I’m starting ‘The Currency of Love’ a memoir by Jill Dodd, founder and original designer of ROXY.

I was intrigued after reading this in the press release:

While working as a struggling model, she fell in love with Adnan Khashoggi, a Saudi businessman and one of the wealthiest people in the world. Caught up in a world of private jets, diamonds, and cocaine, she became one of Khashoggi’s “pleasure wives,” only to later learn that she’d been part of a carefully plotted scheme for a negotiated price.

In other news, we just got a new hot tub up here and will be taking the first dip tonight! I love summer and vacation so much. I feel like we really needed this getaway.

Hope you are having a great weekend. Take some time for yourself.
Remember to put your phone down be in the moment.

I’m taking my own advice, signing off, and grabbing my Kindle to sit outside!

I started watching a show on Amazon Video last night called I love D*ck starring  Kevin Bacon (as Dick) and Kathryn Hahn (Transparent, Bad Moms). She looks like an old friend of mine and it’s shot really well. It’s smart and beautiful. Creative. Sexy. Title is a quote from the show.

Love this shirt from Romwe (find it here!)

A few of the songs are written and performed by Lhasa de Sela and I knew right away was her voice. I love her music, my two favourite songs are La Frontera and J’arrive a La Ville. She won a Juno in Canada in 1997. I feel like maybe I should stop this show and watch it with Sean but I’ve already got GLOW, Master of None, and OITNB on hold. FYI searching the hashtag might bring you up some interesting results.

Throwing Shade: New Celine Sunnies

I didn’t even know today was ‘International Sunglasses Day’ when I planned this post! It’s always crazy when those random days seem to line up with something you’re doing.

A couple weeks ago I received an email from SmartBuyGlasses with an offer to pick out a pair of new sunnies for summer. It’s times like this I reallllly love my blog! I’d been eying a pair of Céline glasses for a while but couldn’t justify paying full price. Well, SmartBuyGlasses is the place to go! They’ve got heaps of designer sunnies at discount prices. I really like their huge selection of Carrera and RayBan (next on my wishlist!).

I’m wearing the Céline ‘Tilda’ from SS15 which retails for about $500 CAD and on the SBG website they’re under $400. They’re made of acetate but have an expensive feel, as in they’re kinda heavy. I have a pretty big huge collection of sunnies ranging in price and save fancy ones like this for special occasions. They’re a little big on my head but I’m gonna try some Nerd Wax to keep them in place.

For the record, I really wanted these glasses so when I got them email to pick out a pair I was so stoked! THANK YOU SmartBuyGlasses!

Snip Snip! Sassson Toronto Spring Style!

For the past few months, I’ve been having my hair done at Sassoon in Yorkville. My hair, although it’s super easy to get ready in the morning, IS VERY high maintenance. I have the colour done about every 4-6 weeks with a trim once, sometimes twice in the middle. I like the experience at Sassoon and each time I’ve had someone different do my hair. Variety is the spice!  In April, I went wild for spring and cut it all off super short!

Before I Cut it all off super short!

Taking Care of Your Hair w/ Treatments

Aside from the cut, I really love how great my blonde looks a couple weeks after I get it done. Blonde can be tricky and if you don’t take care of it properly, it’ll go yellow and brassy. The team at Sassoon has been loading my hair up with treatments to make the colour stay and keep it strong.

Treatments Sassoon has been using in my hair:

Colour: Long Lasting Colour Radiance

Coloured hair needs special care to ensure it retains its vibrancy and shine. The colour treatment conditions and protects hair without build-up, helping to maintain long-lasting color radiance and intensity.

Moisturizing: Dry or Undernourished Hair

Sun exposure and pollution strip your hair of essential natural oils, leaving hair brittle and dehydrated. Hair will be immediately revitalized with the intensive moisturizing treatment, providing exceptional conditioning and restoring hair to its natural brilliant shine.

I’m almost due for a trim before my next root touch-up. I love having short blonde hair but I think I’ll try one of the soft spring pastel colours like pink, violet, or peach. Will be so nice for this time of year!

For my next full appointment, I’d like to grow it out a bit and try this new Sassoon cut from the SS17 collection. It’s a unique look but I think I can pull it off! I love the androgynous style. What a babe!

Stay tuned for a whole new look!

Last weekend I attended the Canadian Screen Awards as a guest of the First Weekend Club. It was my second year attending the ‘Canadian Oscars’ after last year winning the award for Voice Pioneer at CSA’s Social Awards. The awards were hosted by Howie Mandel and held at the Sony Centre on Front Street.

I absolutely love attending these kinds of Canadian events. Since my first job working in TV almost 10 years ago, and being on tv/in a couple documentaries since, I’ve grown to know a lot of people in the industry. I love seeing old friends and colleagues take the stage and supporting creative work by amazing Canadians.

This great dress was rented from Studio Fitzroy, my go-to!

One highlight of the show for me was when Strombo announced an award in the name of Canadian filmmaker and friend Rob Stewart (Sharkwater) who recently passed away. Starting in 2018, the award for Best Science or Nature Documentary Program or Series will be in Rob Stewart’s name.

The pre-show was hosted by Emma Hunter (The Beaverton) who was super funny. My fav line of hers was when she was announcing the nominees for ‘Live Action Short Drama’ and she said ‘story of my life’. I was like ME TOO GIRL, ME TOO. Haha.

I made notes in my phone during the show of Canadian films to add to my watch list including Weirdos, Born to be Blue, and Two Lovers And A Bear.

Thanks you kindly First Weekend Club for inviting me to be your guest. I hope to attend more Canadian Films things with you this year!

I made a custom lipstick, meet ‘n00d’. Thank you @BiteBeauty! #BiteLipLabTO

The other day we drove past the BITE Lip Lab on Queen, it was snowing, and there was this gorgeous man standing in the window. I stared at him and then I was like ‘omg I know him, that’s Christopher!’. Hadn’t seen him in forever, sent him a FB, then he invited me in to make a custom lipstick.

I’d like you to meet my first BITE/CASIE colour:

n00d lipstick by casie stewart bite beauty

The Lip Lab is on Queen just West of Bathurst.

Heaps of colours and I love how they’re displayed on the wall.

You can add up to two flavours to your lipstick. I did mint (only).  I’m happy, it’s refreshing. I bet there’s some pretty great combos with these tho.

It didn’t take that long! I loved the first colours we mixed up and then Christopher got the ingredients, mixed it, chilled it on a cold plate, and put it in a tube. Then they engrave it for you at no extra charge.

Before I knew it, I had my very own unique lipstick, with my initials, and I waltzed off into the sunshine! ☀️

Now I want to make a bright red and peachy one for spring. 🍑

If you’re interested in stopping by, here’s your options. ▼ They said it’s super popular for mother daughter, bffs, sisters. I was there 3pm on a Friday and it wasn’t busy when I got there but there were more people by the time I was leaving.  They also serve wine! 🍷

NEW LOOK, WHO DIS | 2017 Partnership w/ @SassoonToronto

I wanted to get my hair cut before I went to LA and Vegas, but it just didn’t happen. I was been feeling pretty dumpy, the ‘I need a haircut’ feeling can really get you down. However, the day before I left for California I received an email at the bank and said ‘YESSSSS’ out loud to my phone while in line. It was from Matte PR who works with Sassoon Salon,  inviting me to be an ambassador for the brand. I love Sassoon’s precision, have a ton pinned on my Beauty Board and remember that super funky black/blonde I had about 2 years ago, total Sassoon style.

Remember this look? Sassoon Style cut from 2 years ago!

My hair has a HUGE impact on my style, it shows off my personality and it’s part of my overall ‘look’ or ‘brand’ if you wanna call it that. If you’ve known me for a while, you know short blonde hair is MY THING. Short/blonde is also SUPER HIGH MAINTENANCE, having a partner to work with elevates pretty huge expense plus I love having experts on hand. I really enjoyed my first experience at Sassoon which is great because this hair is a sizeable time investment every couple weeks. In case you’re not familiar, The blonde can go yellow/brassy and the cut looks sloppy if not cut on the regular.

My New Cut Colour 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼

I’m super jazzed  to be seeing seeing Sassoon Toronto’s Tricia McQuillan and Kimberley Wallace for cut/colour/style/treatments every 4 weeks with blow dry/style in between for the next few months. I almost wrote blogdry haha.

My new cut gives me serious self-love. It’s short and full of personality and style. The colour is a perfect, even blonde that’s actually shiny. Hard for bleached hair! The cut is precise and car be worn a few different ways. If you’re keen for a new style and want to book an appt, call 416 920 1333 or visit sassoon-salon.com (I’ve linked to Toronto!).

WHAT DO YOU THINK?!!

Working with Sasoon from January - June 2017 - hopefully longer!

Last week I did my first spin class at Spokehaus. I loved it so much, it was really intense and I was so sweaty. I felt great the next day, I could feel it in my muscles but I wasn’t dying. It was a great workout. I’m planning to go back and do it again. Last night I slept funny an now can hardly move my head, good for blogging bad for anything else.

The goal of the class that day was to KNIX bad words or insecurities you might have been carrying around, to set yourself free. For everyone who did the class in Knix Wear, a bra and undies were donated to CAMH.
