I don’t get jealous often, but it’s time to come clean! 🙋🏼 For the last year or so, I’ve watched two of my colleagues at 1188 Films use and rave about, their Surface Pro devices. They use it as a tablet on set, a computer in the office, and a notepad in meetings. While here I am lugging around multiples devices…

I wanted to take one for a test drive, so when I got an email from the Microsoftstore.ca team to do just that, I was totally game!

Here we go with the Surface Pro!

As you know, I spend a lot of time on my computer.  I shift from being a blogger to working as a director with 1188 Films Inc. and doing a variety of other client-related tasks throughout the day (aka. emails galore). I’ve only had the device for a couple of days, but it’s seriously impacted my productivity. The  Surface Pro 4 is both computer and tablet, so it saves me lugging around 2 devices. It’s also small and light, so it’s easy to carry in a purse or backpack. Lately, I‘ve been lugging around both my iPad Pro and MacBook Pro which makes my purse kinda (super) heavy.

As a girl on-the-go, I found the Surface Pro to be super portable, and versatile.
It’s like powerful little studio all in one device.

The fact that the device converts from computer to tablet is a solid feature for creatives like myself.  I’m able to work on a document in computer mode, present something in a meeting in studio mode, and give directions on set in tablet mode. All in one device. You can also work on a bunch of things at the same time, great for multitasking.

Multi-tasking to the MAX

The computer is fast (Intel® Core™ processor) and you can run heavy programs like Premiere or Photoshop with absolutely no issues. You can even edit a video and spit it out in 4k which is super handy for any editor. The battery lasts a full workday (50% more battery life than Surface Pro 3.), meaning you don’t need to drag a charger around.  (You know the struggle of finding an outlet is real. Very real).

I’ve been making a lot more art lately, so I was super keen to check out The Surface Pen. It’s got a wide sensor and pressure range great for detailed drawings. One of the things I noticed before I even got started is that the pen and Surface device are magnetic, aka the chances of you losing the pen are lower than with the iPad Pro. (If you have one of these devices you know what I mean!)

Using the brushes in Fresh Paint is hyper-realistic, I was painting with oil and the way the paint moves, blends and smudges is incredibly close to the real thing. I’m familiar with Autodesk Sketchbook so was glad to see it was available for Surface Pro. I use that to sign my name for the blog and the pen is very detailed, exactly like what you have it set to ex. paint brush, chalk, pencil, ballpoint pen etc.

If there was one thing I’d change, it would be to add another USB port as there is only one on the device. You can purchase a Surface Dock on microsoftstore.ca to transform your device into a desktop PC! There is a firewire cable, and you can pop in an SD or Micro SD card directly to the unit.

Overall, great device especially for students or freelancers that work on-the-go. Highly recommend for anyone with a mix of creativity and business in their life. For more info on the Surface Pro 4 or to make a purchase, visit microsoftstore.ca.

If you have any questions for me about using the device, leave a comment!

I started watching a show on Amazon Video last night called I love D*ck starring  Kevin Bacon (as Dick) and Kathryn Hahn (Transparent, Bad Moms). She looks like an old friend of mine and it’s shot really well. It’s smart and beautiful. Creative. Sexy. Title is a quote from the show.

Love this shirt from Romwe (find it here!)

A few of the songs are written and performed by Lhasa de Sela and I knew right away was her voice. I love her music, my two favourite songs are La Frontera and J’arrive a La Ville. She won a Juno in Canada in 1997. I feel like maybe I should stop this show and watch it with Sean but I’ve already got GLOW, Master of None, and OITNB on hold. FYI searching the hashtag might bring you up some interesting results.

casiestewart, casie stewart, you're young, you can do whatever you want

Found this in an alley near my house the other day. I would be kinda annoyed if this was my wall but I also like the message.

This is a little reminder that you can do anything you want. Just go, get up off the couch and DO IT. Want to start a blog? Make one. Be an enrtepreneur? Do something every day to bring you closer to your goal. There is nothing standing in your way other than your own self-doubt, fear, or anxiety. Not having time or money is not an excuse. Face whatever is holding you back, head on, and make a change.

There’s no point wasting your time and energy doing something you don’t want to do. Life is short and every day you should do something that makes you happy.

I originally drew this back in 2009. It was around the time I quit a job I didn’t want to do anymore. I wasn’t allowed to do use social media at work since it wasn’t part of my job (they blocked Twitter & Facebook!). I’d removed time stamps from my blog as to hide when things were posted. I quit that job to do social at Much/MTV and have never looked back.

Since then, if I find myself in a situaion where I don’t want to do whatever it is, I quit. I find a way to get out of it or change it into something I do actually want to do.

Make the most of each day. You’ll never be younger than you are right now. 😊

I didn’t even know today was ‘International Sunglasses Day’ when I planned this post! It’s always crazy when those random days seem to line up with something you’re doing.

A couple weeks ago I received an email from SmartBuyGlasses with an offer to pick out a pair of new sunnies for summer. It’s times like this I reallllly love my blog! I’d been eying a pair of Céline glasses for a while but couldn’t justify paying full price. Well, SmartBuyGlasses is the place to go! They’ve got heaps of designer sunnies at discount prices. I really like their huge selection of Carrera and RayBan (next on my wishlist!).

I’m wearing the Céline ‘Tilda’ from SS15 which retails for about $500 CAD and on the SBG website they’re under $400. They’re made of acetate but have an expensive feel, as in they’re kinda heavy. I have a pretty big huge collection of sunnies ranging in price and save fancy ones like this for special occasions. They’re a little big on my head but I’m gonna try some Nerd Wax to keep them in place.

For the record, I really wanted these glasses so when I got them email to pick out a pair I was so stoked! THANK YOU SmartBuyGlasses!

When this was delivered Sean said ‘look, it’s your biggest fan!‘ 😛  I don’t do product reviews often but when a piece of really cool tech comes along I’m happy to test it out and share my thoughts. A few people asked about the fan when it arrived early spring so scroll down for my fav features.

tl;dr: This fancy fan is the best one I’ve ever owned. It’s quiet and you can monitor your home air quality from the iPhone app. Also, at high speed, you can be just like Beyonce!

This is my allergy free happy face!

Since I was a kid I’ve been prone to seasonal allergies. They usually kick in around the worst times like March Break or Back to School.

A member of the PR team from Dyson saw my tweets about allergies and offered I try the Dyson Pure Cool Link Tower. This fan has no blades and is easy to clean, plus it removes 99.97% of allergens and pollutants as small as 0.3 microns. Allergies can actually be made worse by indoor dust and pollens.

I received the fan in the spring and used it in the living room for the last couple months. It’s great for cleaning the air of smells (when cooking), making the house feel fresh, and cleaning toxins out of the air. You don’t even want to know how much dirt is in the air or carpets.

I can’t 100% say it was just the fan but I hardly had any reactions this spring. I found the fan really helped with the air quality in our house. It’ll be nice to see how the app tracks and monitors our air quality.

COOL THINGS ABOUT THIS FAN:

  • It has wifi! I downloaded the app and have been monitoring the air quality in my workspace. I also have smart lights up in here, helloooo future!
  • Set it, forget it – The fan will monitor air quality in your home and adjust settings to clean the air.
  • Multipurpose – It’ll purify your air all year and act as a fan in the summer (multi-purpose).
  • Design – It’s nice looking, for all the features packed in, it hardly looks like an appliance
  • Night mode – It will work through the night but is super quiet. I’m not one of those people that like the sounds of a fan at night.
  • Oscillation trust me it has real soft moves
  • Removes odour – we initially had it in the living room and it’s great for clearing the air especially when cooking

If you or someone in your family is prone to allergies or you just want really clean air, this is the fan for you. It’s on the pricey side but if you’re looking for similar function on a lower budget, try the smaller Dyson Pure Cool™ Link Desk.   Read up on the fan features at dysoncanada.ca website.

If you’re looking at other Dyson products we also have the Dyson V7 and I love that little thing!

For the record, I was given this fan in exchange for sharing my opinion!

It’s crazy and mind opening to go back into my life diary and see things I made and not really remember creating them. Imagine 10 years from now, scrolling back to read the diary you started today?

There’s a lot of benefits as you may know, to keeping a journal (here’s 10). I started mine, mostly to keep more memories and it has totally worked. Writing this blog has helped my memory, writing, self-discipline, and it’s pretty good therapy (for the record!).

In the last 12 years I’ve grown from a wild post-uni 20-something to an adult doing real things. Still kinda wild tho! I had no idea what this (journal) would turn into when I started, or back in 2009 when I took this photo and wrote words on it. I’m really glad I didn’t give up all those times I thought about it.

Randomly found the 2009 photo below while searching (for something else) in my blog yesterday. I’ve taken so many photos and written a ton of things, sometimes I actually inspire myself!

I guess what I’m saying is, anything is possible and you can find
a lot of inspiration in your own archives.

Canada Day weekend is just around the corner and as you’re aware there’s heaps of celebrations of our wonderful country. One in particular, I’m sharing with you right now combines two of my fav things, PIZZA and ART.  Also, I really love, love pizza….

Panago partnered with Toronto-born born artist Chairman Ting to create a one of a kind rad drawing you’ll find on their pizza boxes until August.

AND, in true #RandomActsofPizza Panago fashion, if you colour in the box and share it with them on social, you might just score yourself some free pizza.

To get my hands on the new boxes, I hosted a pizza party at the office. We had the new Canadian pizza with all the trimmings. The boxes are actually really cool! I’d love to do something like this. There’s all kinds of little Canadian things including the CN Tower, a Mountie, lighthouse, the Rockies, Parliament in Ottawa in more. Panago is a Canadian brand and you’ll find locations across the country.

“We wanted to celebrate all regions across the country,” says Christie Coughlan, Panago VP Marketing Director. “The summer box is the perfect packaging to promote our Ultimate Canadian, True Canadian and Vegan Canadian pizzas this summer, while shouting—not whispering—Happy Birthday to the Canada!”

Visit panago.com or give them a ring to order yourself a pizza. If you colour in the box and post it to social with the hashtag #sharemorecanada you might be rewarded with a #randomactsofpizza and FREE ‘ZA!

XO WITH LOVE AND PIZZA,

Gives me great joy to partner with Panago to bring you this pizza message in celebration of Canada.

My love for this fabulous circle food is literally, skin deep. 😛

OK SO…Seeing ‘Directed by Casie Stewart & Don Allan” on this video is pretty cool! Thanks to Sean & Don (Revolver Films) for the opportunity. Was a cool experience to work my way through doing something new! All the hand lettering in the video was done by Jeff Woo.

BEHIND THE SCENES

Sean tasked me with the job of directing this and at first, I was like SURE! Then a bit of panic set in that I didn’t ‘really’ know what I was doing. Finally, his advice was just to sit down and do the work. None of us ‘really’ know what we’re doing half the time! I’ve spent enough time on set, at video shoots, and behind the scenes, plus, all the creativity I need is right in my head.

Original colour palette

I spent a few hours one Friday night working away on iPad Pro, airdropping things to my MacBook and adding them to Premiere. This step is ‘writing the directors treatment‘. Next, we met with Slate Music (label) and Jillea (artist) at Revolver Films to share the idea. They loved it! I Was really keen to use millennial pink and am so happy with how it turned out so good.

What do you think?

I look forward to more work like this, I love expanding my skills and learning as I go. I’m still working away at my iPad Letting course and am excited to put that new knowledge to work.
