Events | The Collective w/ Lincoln Drive + Kim Newport-Mimram & Susur Lee

The other day I attended an event at the Thompson Toronto with Lincoln. The Collective connected three artists for a special media preview, to speak about inspiration, drive, and their creativity on a daily basis. The partnership brought together designer Kimberly Newport-Mimran (PinkTartan), chef Susur Lee (Bent, Frings – w/ Drake!) and visual artist Jacques Gallant (metal fabrication). Kim (as I call her now! :P) talked about her love for attention to detail, the relationship between haute couture and ready to wear. She also designed a one of a kind dress inspired by Lincoln. Susur (we hung out here a while back) spoke about senses in design and created signature hors d’oeuvres and cocktails. Mr. Gallant talked about the importance of hand-crafting and how it translates into modern design. I test drove a sweet ride around the block and went back for snacks. Great night! Thanks Lincoln!

An Afternoon w/ Susur Lee at Bent Restauraunt

Yesterday I spent the afternoon at Bent Restaurant w/ world-renowned chef Susur Lee, learning about his cooking an sampling the upcoming Veggielicious menu. The five-course vegetarian menu runs September 9th-20th at Bent, which he owns with his sons. Yes, he is holding two fish in the photo but they’re for the raw sushi bar! In the garden w/ @susurlee just down the street from @BentRestaurant checking out fresh veggies they use in-house. pic.twitter.com/wVvmBv4Gc1 — CASIE STEWART (@casiestewart) August 25, 2014 First on the Veggielicious menu is ‘Dip Three Ways’, a mixture of hummus, baba ganoush, olives, and spicy mustard seed tomato stew.  These didn’t last long!     We started by making meringue desserts so they could bake while we explored the menu. I’m quite familiar w/ meringue as the Pavlova is a famous New Zealand dessert I’ve been making with mum as long as I can remember. We were given Susur Lee’s merengue recipe so I’m planning whip up a batch at the cottage this weekend and impress Sean’s parents. Look out! Below on the left is the meringue Chef made and mine is on the right. Added some almonds to fancy it up a bit. It was delicious. Scroll down to see the dessert presentation, it was a thing of beauty. Chickpea Tempura Tofu    Wild Mushroom Quinoa Risotto    French Merengie w/ Golden Licorice, feat. wild blueberry, peaches, passionfruit syrup, raspberry coulis! They have some stellar cocktails you can check out on Instagram at @bentcocktails. This is the Asian Caesar, the most popular cocktail at Bent. It’s got a whole bunch of ingredients including soy & Hoisin sauce. Yep, that’s an oyster on there too. Veggielicious at Bent runs from Spet. 9-20th so make a reso and take your fav veggie lover for a nice meal. There’s a raw sushi bar too. For more info visit bentrestaurant.com. Huge thank you to Chef Susur Lee and the…

Get Luckee + Get Leather

This week was a busy one. Stayed in last night. There were no cabs due to the rain so I picked Em up from school in a black Lincoln town car from Uber. I had a couple credits so it wasn’t that bad! She was totes excited and I then ordered takeout for dinner. Wednesday was the opening of Susur Lee’s new spot Luckee at the Soho Met hotel. [Susur Lee selfie] Fun opening, and the food I got around to trying was great. I need to go back for a sit down dinner. I’ve done a few things with Met hotels over the years (here + here) plus Community Agency did the Luckee branding so it was great to see lots of familiar faces since we’ve all been hibernating for months. Lauren and I met SANDY COHEN. If you follow me on any other social network you’ve probably seen this already. I loved the OC so much. We were there and Laguna last summer, so much fun. My ‘Celebrity Selfie’ collection is really growing. The Rudsak sample sale is on till Sunday. I’ve worn my new jacket and used my new bag on the daily day since I picked them out Wednesday. Here’s the three items I got. Worth stopping by if you’re in the market for a new bag or leather jacket. I had a gift card to put towards my purchase so it was an even sweeter deal. Heading out to Yorkdale to use a gift card for Ted Baker I’ve been holding onto forever. Hellooo Spring! Have an awesome day 🙂 <3 CASIE Bag Jacket Shoes Rudsak Sample Sale Hours Location:60 Atlantic Avenue Liberty Village, Toronto Saturday, April 26th 10am – 5pm Sunday, April 27th 10am – 5pm

Tonight is Nuit Blanche and the city is alive with art installaions, music, and culture. It’s one of my fvaourite Toronto events and I’ve taken part since it started back in 2008. Tonight I’m starting with The Tragically Hip and Molson Canadian at Sound Academy. The show isn’t a Nuit Blache event but those are tickets I won’t pass up! My portrait is featured in an installation called Life Lessons at Funding Matters Gallery  (Zone C 29).  Life Lessons features 311 portraits of community figures who have helped shape the city of Toronto. Other notables ar Margaret Atwood, David Miller, Douglas Coupland, Justin Bieber, Atom Egoyan, George Strombo, David Mirvish, Susur Lee, and Karen Kain. I am extremely honoured to be in this amazing group! The project will be exhibited using Sony HD TV screens displaying life-sized images of each subject at print-quality resolution. Another fav was 2010 when we filmed the video that won me the Virgin America Provocateur title. Here’s a little art history on my Nuit Blanche adventures. [View the story “Art History: Nuit Blanche & Borderline Artistic” on Storify] After the Hip and Life Lesson’s exhibit, I’ll be heading to Camera Parts on Queen Street for Drambuie’s Extraordinary Night pop-up installation.
