NXNE + MMVA 2013
NXNE was fun except I got sick after and didn’t even go to that many shows. Didn’t do much of the MMVA either besides a few afternoon stops on Sunday. Wasn’t feelin’ it this year. Jackie my old friend, it was lovely to see you. The Red Bull patio is always a good time. It’s the spot above their super rad office on Queen Street. Latest ep of my show on @CoralTV. I’ve been more active on YouTube since working with the Coral team. Viddy will load right into YouTube which makes things super fast & easy. Rock version of Drake’s motto. I love this track. I did a lip dub on Viddy the other week. Instagrammy photos from the weekend made with Flipagram I blogged yesterday. NXNE Interactive: Free Stuff, Narcissism, OOTD, Viddy
Turns out NXNE had me listed three times for a badge so this combo pass gives me full NXNE Media, Interactive and access to the Speakers lounge during the festival. Years ago I used to sneak in to this stuff so it’s pretty neat! Check your conference bags for a gift card from 3F and you can get some sweet colours in denim too. I’m on a BOD for the shop and there are HEAPS of nice things in there at the moment. I was asked ‘what is the store like?’. 3F brand comes from a hign end textile company that works with Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, so the clothes are great fabrics, really well made but not high price. They have clothes for men and women. Store is at YD Square near movie theatre entrance. SO MANY BANDS PLAYING. I can’t handle it. I wanna go to everything. Carly & I, at it again! Life of the party 🙂 Thanks to Jason for stopping to shoot us & thanks to my planning, I’ve managed to get my work done today and attend two sessions. The afternoon one I went to was all about Women in Social Media and I learned I need to start being on panels. I’ve got lots to share about internet, personal branding, stalkers, privacy. I’ve been doing this internet thing since before ICQ & I started blogging on that old myspace in 2005. In other daily news, got an email today for the SXSW panel picker for 2011. Had a great call about a campaign with a new client. Confirmed I’m a judge for the Canadian Online Publishing Awards. Heading over to Peach Berserk before getting my hair done to see about a special MMVA dress too. I’m really excited about life and my friends and my job. All this stuff just makes me wanna work harder and set BIGGER goals! LOOK OUT WORLD HERE I COME! FTW! I got to thinking about that MTV TJ job everyone is buzzing about and looked back to that article about me in the Metro back in Jan. Made me feel pretty lucky/proud of how much I’ve grown since then and what I’m doing at work. NXNE PANEL #nxnei
I attended one of the first sessions for NXNE Interactive this morning. Couple people I know were on the panel and I like to surpport them as well as the session itself was interesting: Social Media Circle Jerking 101. I’m surprised that I didn’t take considering all the girls I saw there: Carly, Abby, Lucia, Lisa & Jas. That’s a social media circle jerk right there. haha. Couldn’t help but think of Raymi, she always calls the SM events circle jerks. It’s true really, a bunch of ‘meme’ people in a room talking about themselves. If you wanna see comments from the session or what people are saying, check the hashtag #nxnei. Gonna get back there this arvo for Lucia’s session. Then I get ma hair did by Darren Kwik. Found this Colorsmash Hair Shadow in a gift bag from NXNE the other day so I’m putting it to good use. You never know what you’ll find in those things! I love hair chalk but find it quite messy and it makes my hair dry. I may have seen this easy non-permanent hair colour on Pinterest or made it up one day, I can’t remember. Since I have blonde hair, it’s really easy to tint but I don’t like to stick with one shade too long. Here’s my recipe for adding some sass to your hair without drying or damaging it. 1. Shave off some chalk into a small bowl and mix w/ conditioner. Use a knife or other tool you find around. Something that will make it into a power. It might stain so don’t use the good muddler or marble mortar and pestle from the kitchen. If you don’t have hair chalk you can use artist chalk from any art store (don’t use pastel or sidewalk chalk). Mix with any conditioner in a plastic container/bowl. 2. Mix the paste and put on your hair. To make the colour more intense/last a bit longer longer you can wrap your hair saran wrap to add heat. Don’t wrap your face. The actual colour of your hair will not be this dark. DNO’T FREAK OUT. Leave on for 10-30 min. 3. Rinse out. Most of the colour will go down the drain. This can be kinda messy. Use a dark towel. Once you blow dry you’ll have a dreamy light tint to your hair. VOILA! I’ve tried this with just abut every shade/brand of chalk (Kevin Murphy, professional brands, art store materials) and they all wash out in in 1-2 days. This one time I left saran wrap on with purple chalk-conditioner and the tint lasted 4 days before washing out completely. Seal…

Events | The Most Pride in the World
Have you seen these yet? They’re beautiful! This weekend I had Saturday morning coffee with Andrew Dobson. He’s the blogger babe behind dobbernation.com and regular writer for Metro News Canada. We checked out the rainbow crosswalks in The Village and gabbed about adventure. It’s so lovely to chat one on one with a friend in the sun. I almost got a ticket from this hot cop but told him I was getting a photo and jumped in the car with a smile. Toronto Pride is extra special this year because it’s World Pride and we’re hosting! I’ve been going to Pride since Dad took Jenie and I when we were kids. Have some really great moments and blogged about them around this time last year. From now to the end of the month is crazy time w/MMVA, NXNE , Pop Up Perrier, 2 speaking gigs AND Pride. I’ll have heaps of stories to share and it will feel great when July long weekend rolls around. Here’s a few of my fav photos from Toronto Pride over the years. Thank googness for Google! Suffer for Your Art | Sunset Canoe Ride
Last night we went for a romantic sunset canoe ride. It was so incredibly beautiful. Took these with my GoPro. Jumped in the lake before calling it a night. It’s so great to be back up at the cottage. The weather this weekend was pretty nice except the bugs were HORRIBLE. I really ‘suffered for my art’ as Sean calls it because I got about 20 nasty bites while on the canoe ride. Mostly on my bum! The little buggers got me right through my Lululemon pants! This week is gonna be great! Today is the warmest day of the year. We’re about to launch some AWESOME stuff at work and today I’ve got a NXNE site visit for our festival sponsorship. The Jays are doing great and Thursday I’ve got a double date with Lauren and our BFs to sit in the Bacardi Best Seats for the game. We went last year and it was awesome.
